Goodbye Mr Brown.

I am absoloutly sickened by the European election results.

Really, if the party in power, masquerading as socialists, makes a complete mess of things, does the population (an unsettlingly large proportion of it) truely believe that the answer is extremist, down right racist, right wing politics?  Has 20th century history taught us nothing?

Apparently not.

Comparitively, in Italy, the exact opposite is taking place, but from a similar reasoning.  With Berlusconi venturing far into the right wing of political policy, left wing extremism is raising its equally ugly head, gathering supporters, and thus Milan is currently covered in "Vote Communist" posters.  Fabulous.

I wonder how much of this ying-yang swing effect has to do with the prevalence of American political coverage in the European media? The more we are exposed to a system of thought that is right vs. left with no middle ground, the more Europe follows the pattern?
Hmmm... interesting thought certainly, however it's undermined by the fact that I think the 'pendulim swing effect' was an occurence that has happened before American election coverage in Europe.

Sad that while Americans have proved themselves to be forward thinkers by voting in Obama, we in England vote two BNP members into the European parlianment.
That BNP reminds me unpleasantly of a 1930's german right wing party. Is it true that they don't allow people from asian or african descent in their ranks? That is so...sick. I can't really think of a fitting word here.

What becomes apparent in this election, is the fact that during times of crisis all common sense seems to go down the drain and people start turning in the wrong directions for solutions.
But the scariest thing about this election is, I think, the abysmal turnout. Don't people care?
"Is it true that they don't allow people from asian or african descent in their ranks?"

Yes. They would wish to deport anyone who is not white from Britain. After this election, there are now two of their representitives sitting in the European parliament for England. Dreadful.

In England, the two main political parties no longer represent the left and right as they traditionally did, instead both shifting into the middle to have policies that are almost identical. Presently, there is absoloutly no confidence in the current Labour government or Gordon Brown, which would have usually led the population to vote for the opposing party to put them in power and give Westminister a freshen up.

HOWEVER, because both parties have unbeleivably similar policies, the British populace are unsatisfied with the current government, but the main opposition party offers almost no change to how the country would be run. Thus, this has led many to simply not vote, or, in my opinion worse, vote for extremist parties, i.e. the BNP as they see them as the only available alternative. And, of course, blaming 'foriegners' for the problems of England is much better then blaming ones self.

In the European elections, although the Conservatives were the clear winners, they hardly increased their seats while Labour's vote plummeted. The votes that didn't go to Labour, went to the extremist right instead. Very unsettling indeed.
