One Step Sideways

Dear Page One Hundred and Something.

Victor Hugo's writing never ceases to thrill, amuse and amaze me. 

Usually.

However, in reading Les Miserables, as soon as the character of Fantine was introduced and described along the lines of "blond and innocent" with the company of a somewhat dubious boyfriend, my mind immediately thought, "She's going to get pregnant and abandoned."

Low and behold, five mini chapters later: Pregnant and abandoned. 

That'll teach you to be blond and innocent.

So, I have finally indulged in pop culture and read "Twilight".  Mainly, because I felt left out of conversations revolving around the book as the only thing I could enter into discussion was "It all sounds rather cliche".  And secondly, because my brother read it over Christmas and he said it was good, to the extent that he has started reading the second book.  Ah, I thought, a teenage male has enjoyed the book; maybe it is more then just the emo-girl-indulgence it seems to be.  So it was that I sat down and read Twilight.

And the verdict is... )
